Swap out the sugar

Add fresh fruit
Fresh fruit treats are not only delicious and naturally sweet, they’re a great way to add a little more nutrition to your baking delights. Chuck some fresh blueberries into your muffins, raspberries in your brownies, or try experimenting with fresh fruit tarts and crumbles.
Crank up the fibre
Add texture and fibre to your baked goods by subbing out a third of your white flour for a wholemeal.
Sub out the oil
Keep your treats moist and tasty without copious amounts of oil by subbing in half the amount of oil for a fresh fruit puree, like unsweetened applesauce. You can also sub in Greek yoghurt for that full fatty flavour.
Ripe bananas are your friend
Got some bananas that are just past their prime? Naturally rich in glucose, they make a great naturally sweet addition to baked treats in place of sugar.
Sugar and spice
Spices like cinnamon and nutmeg can add additional warming sweetness and flavour to recipes that will leave you satisfied without the sugar rush.
Embrace the muffin tin
Rather than baking your treats in a cake or baking tray (who hasn’t eaten a GIANT SLAB fresh out of the oven?), muffin or cupcake tins are basically just hey-presto portion control.
If the treat allows, bag some up and whack in the freezer for later – putting a little effort between you and the next indulgence.
